Be the Change Southwest Louisiana Needs

Strong communities don’t happen by accident. They are built by people who speak up, show up, and stand together.
At Micah 6:8 Mission, we work every day to protect the health, safety, and future of Southwest Louisiana. Through environmental justice, disaster preparedness, food access programs, and community education, we believe lasting change happens when community members get involved.
📣 Current Public Comment Period 1 — Prater Road Wetlands Destruction
Micah 6:8 Mission encourages Southwest Louisiana residents to participate in the current public comment period regarding Permit Application No. MVN-2015-02191-WKK, a proposed U.S. Army Corps of Engineers permit modification for development activities along Prater Road and Perkins Avenue in Sulphur, Louisiana.
According to the public notice, the proposal would involve large-scale excavation, construction of detention ponds, aggregate laydown yards, drainage infrastructure, road improvements, and associated industrial-style support facilities on approximately 61.3 acres of impacted wetlands.
This proposal raises important concerns regarding wetland loss, flooding and drainage impacts, cumulative environmental harm, stormwater management, water quality, industrial encroachment into sensitive areas, and long-term impacts on nearby neighborhoods and Southwest Louisiana’s natural flood protection systems.
Several community comment letter templates are now available to help residents participate in the public process and ensure local voices are included in the official administrative record.
Public participation matters. Community members deserve transparency, accountability, meaningful environmental review, and strong protections for public health, wetlands, drainage systems, and community welfare before irreversible environmental changes occur.
Community members are also encouraged to request:
• A local public hearing; and
• An extension of the public comment period to allow adequate time for community review.
