Public Comment Letters: Make Your Voice Heard

Industrial permits and environmental policies can affect our air, waterways, and neighborhoods. Public comments help government agencies hear questions and concerns before they make decisions. Use this page to find open comment periods, upcoming deadlines, and simple steps for speaking up. You can write your own letter or use one of our sample letters as a starting point. Read it carefully, make it your own, and send it directly to the agency reviewing the proposal.
You do not need to be a scientist or an expert to make your voice heard.
How to Submit a Public Comment
- Choose an issue. Find a permit or policy that matters to you and review the official notice.
- Share your concerns. Explain why the issue matters to your community and what you want the agency to consider.
- Include the permit information. Add the facility name and permit number or federal docket number.
- Submit before the deadline. Follow the instructions for that specific notice and keep a copy of your comment.
Where Do I Send My Comments?

Westlake: Wastewater Discharge into Bayou Verdine
Comment Deadline: November 9, 2026
Louisiana Integrated Polyethylene (LIP JV) is requesting permission to use an alternate wastewater discharge point during construction near the I-10 bridge. Instead of following its usual route to the Calcasieu River, wastewater could enter Bayou Verdine. Bayou Verdine is smaller and slower-moving than the river. Micah 6:8 Mission is asking LDEQ to evaluate the actual conditions where the wastewater would enter the bayou.
Questions worth asking:
- Could the additional discharge affect water quality, dissolved oxygen, fish, or wildlife?
- Has LDEQ considered existing industrial discharges?
- Have lower-flow conditions in the bayou been properly evaluated?

Past Comment Period — CP2 LNG Expansion Project
Dockets CP26-530-000 and CP26-533-000
Community members have an opportunity to submit comments regarding the CP2 LNG Expansion Project. Choose the letter that best reflects your own concerns. Personalize the opening with your connection to Louisiana, Cameron Parish, the Calcasieu River, fishing, farming, wildlife, or public safety. You may combine ideas from more than one letter, but comments are strongest when they explain why the issue matters to you and state what you want FERC to do.
You can file your comments electronically using the eComment feature on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s website under the link to FERC Online. Using eComment is an easy method for submitting brief, text-only comments on a project. You can also submit comments using the eFiling feature on the Commission’s website. With eFiling, you can provide comments in a variety of formats by attaching them as a file with your submission.
New eFiling users must first create an account by clicking on “eRegister.” You will be asked to select the type of filing you are making. A comment on a particular project is considered a “Comment on a Filing.” Be sure both docket numbers — CP26-530-000 and CP26-533-000 — appear on your letter. Add the date, your name, mailing address, and signature. Keep a copy for your records.
Important: The sample letters provided by Micah 6:8 Mission are based on project information provided for the Community Connections Sunday activity. Writers should use only statements that accurately reflect their own experiences and concerns.
